A tropical-inspired aperitif is particularly appropriate in warm summer weather – such as with a dash of Trojka Aloha, Flamingo or Coconut. Our light and simple cocktails, such as the Flamingo Spritz, are evidence that a mixed drink based on a vodka liqueur doesn’t have to be strong. Especially in summer, it’s advisable to use a little less alcohol for your aperitif ideas. Trojka fits perfectly, as most Trojka liqueurs have no more than 17% ABV.

What’s an aperitif?
In Switzerland and parts of southern Germany, drinks receptions or “apéros” are an integral part of everyday life. Just as it’s customary to serve tapas in Spain, mezedes in Greece or an aperitivo Milanese in Italy, apéros are the norm here. Strictly speaking, the apéro isn’t part of the starter or the main course. Rather, it’s intended to bridge the time until the actual start of the meal, or even serves as an occasion in its own right.
A classic Swiss apéro involves a serving platter or a special aperitif platter. While a drinks reception in Germany usually consists of just an appetizing drink, a Swiss apéro tends to include something to eat in addition to a drink. Typical finger food served at a Swiss apéro includes nuts, savoury biscuits, crisps, cheese, air-cured meat, olives, vegetable dips, bread and canapés.

The snacks are accompanied by drinks appropriate to the occasion, such as white wine, sparkling wine or simple cocktails such as these from Trojka. As a rule, guests help themselves.
In Switzerland, an apéro riche is a sumptuous occasion that can include a succession of offerings ranging from stimulating to hearty and savoury to sweet. For this reason, the apéro riche can serve as a separate meal.
What does an aperitif consist of?
Nowhere is it specified what qualifies as an aperitif: the choice of beverage is based on personal taste. However, drinks should harmonise with the food and suit the time of year. For example, light, summery drinks and simple cocktails can be served at higher temperatures.
Drinks considered to be typical aperitifs also depend on the culture and traditional cuisine of a region. The wide variety of aperitif-type beverages includes tart, fresh white wines and rosés, port wines, sherry, sparkling wines such as prosecco, vermouth and mixed alcoholic drinks such as light cocktails or long drinks based on vodka liqueurs.
